Where most clients start
Pick the situation closest to yours. Each one starts with the same step: a short, confidential intake so we can see what you’re dealing with.
We review the notice and your account transcripts, confirm what is actually owed or missing, and lay out the response options before the deadline passes.
Start with the notice → Unfiled returnsWe identify the missing years, rebuild the numbers from bank records and IRS data, and prepare eligible returns so you can get current — the step that comes before most payment options.
Get current → BookkeepingQuickBooks cleanup, reconciliations, and a monthly routine so your numbers are ready when a lender, the IRS, or tax season asks for them.
Clean up the books → Planning & CFOYear-round tax planning, cash-flow forecasts, and management reporting so decisions are based on current numbers, not last year’s return.
Plan ahead →Integrated financial services

Before many IRS collection alternatives can be considered, required tax returns must be filed and current payment obligations must be addressed. For an Offer in Compromise, this generally includes all legally required returns, required current-year estimated tax payments, and—when the taxpayer has employees—required federal tax deposits. IBS uses authorized records, IRS transcripts, data analysis, and professional tax software to help establish compliance before evaluating the resolution path supported by the client’s facts.
Tax resolution case development
IBS builds the working case in a disciplined sequence so the requested resolution is supported by filing history, transcript data, financial documentation, and the client’s actual ability to comply.
Determine the appropriate information authorization or power-of-attorney process for the agreed engagement, then obtain account information through authorized IRS channels.
Review return, account, and wage-and-income information to identify filing gaps, balances, payments, penalties, collection activity, examinations, and other issues requiring follow-up.
Compile available bank, payroll, bookkeeping, information-return, and prior-filing data; identify missing records; and prepare eligible delinquent returns needed to establish filing compliance.
Organize income, allowable living or business expenses, assets, liabilities, and supporting documents into a consistent working file for the applicable collection analysis and forms.
Compare the facts with potentially available paths, which may include full payment, an installment agreement, penalty-relief review, currently-not-collectible consideration, or an Offer in Compromise.
Prepare the agreed package, track outstanding items and deadlines, and coordinate with the client and appropriately authorized professionals through completion.
A clear compliance status, a list of missing returns and records, an organized financial case file, an explanation of realistic resolution paths, required-document guidance, and a sequenced action plan. No outcome is guaranteed; eligibility and acceptance depend on the taxing authority’s rules and the client’s verified facts.
Technology-enabled compliance
Compliance work often begins with records that are incomplete, inconsistent, or spread across multiple systems. IBS applies computer proficiency and analytical review to assemble the available evidence, identify missing information, reconcile differences, and create an organized working file for the required return, form, notice response, or business decision.
Gather statements, ledgers, payroll reports, prior returns, notices, and supporting documents.
Compile and classify transactions, identify gaps, and document reasonable follow-up items.
Compare source records, accounting data, and tax information for consistency.
Prepare the agreed forms or returns and coordinate remaining items with approved professionals.
The IBS approach
We begin with the filing obligation, notice, or business decision in front of the client, then determine what information is available, what is missing, and what must be completed next.
Clarify goals, deadlines, filing history, notices, stakeholders, and immediate concerns.
Review records, systems, processes, risks, and information gaps.
Create a focused work plan with defined documents, responsibilities, and milestones.
Prepare the agreed work and coordinate unresolved items with the appropriate professionals.

Frequently asked questions
Don’t ignore it. Note the response deadline and the notice number (usually printed in the top or bottom corner), and keep the envelope. Many notices have short deadlines that affect your options. Send us the notice type and date through the consultation form and we’ll tell you what information is needed next.
Start by finding out which years the tax agency expects. IRS wage-and-income transcripts show the income reported under your name, which helps identify missing years and rebuild the numbers. For most payment plans or an Offer in Compromise, required returns must be filed first — so getting current is usually step one.
That’s common. Bank and card statements, payroll reports, 1099s and W-2s, prior returns, and IRS transcripts can often be used to reconstruct income and expenses. We document what was used and what still needs follow-up.
Representation before the IRS is limited to individuals who are authorized to practice. At the start of an engagement, IBS will tell you whether your matter needs an authorized representative and coordinate with one when it does.
QuickBooks for accounting records, ProSeries for eligible tax returns, and Tax Help Software to request and analyze authorized IRS transcripts.
IBS serves small and closely held businesses and their owners in Blaine, Anoka County, the Twin Cities, and communities throughout Minnesota.
